A Full Commercial Vehicle Safety

A safety isn't a paperwork exercise — it's a head-to-toe inspection. We check what the MTO standard requires and tell you straight if anything's borderline.

  • Brakes — shoes, drums, pads, rotors, push-rod stroke, slack adjusters
  • Air system — chambers, valves, lines, leak-down test
  • Suspension — leaf springs, air bags, U-bolts, shocks, bushings
  • Steering — box, drag link, tie rods, kingpins
  • Frame, crossmembers, and structural integrity
  • Tires and wheels — tread depth, condition, wheel-end inspection
  • Lighting — every position, harness, and 7-way
  • Coupling — fifth wheel, kingpin, pintle, hitch
  • Exhaust and emissions visual check
  • Glass, mirrors, wipers, and cab/body items
  • Issue the sticker and inspection certificate on pass
  • Itemized list of any failures — and a fair quote to fix them

Watch For These Before You Book

A few quick checks can save you a re-inspection. Here's what most often catches drivers out.

Brakes Out of Adjustment

One chamber stroking past the legal mark is a fail. We adjust everything to spec as part of the inspection.

Tire Tread Below Limit

Steer below 2/32" or drive/trailer below 1/32" is a fail. Measure before you come in — or have us replace it the same day.

Lighting Out

A single dead marker, brake, or tail light is a fail. We fix lighting on the spot.

Air Leaks

Pressure dropping faster than the standard allows. Often a small line, fitting, or chamber — quick to fix.

Suspension & Steering Wear

Worn kingpins, loose tie rods, broken spring leaves. We measure and replace what's beyond spec.

Frame Cracks & Coupling Wear

Cracks in the frame, worn fifth-wheel jaws, or excess kingpin play. All structural fails — and all things we can fix in-house.

MTO Safety Inspections — Quick Answers

How often does my truck or trailer need a safety?

Most commercial trucks and trailers need an annual safety inspection by the MTO standard. Some heavier or specialty vehicles fall under semi-annual rules. If you're not sure which applies to you, call and we'll walk you through it.

What if my truck fails?

You get an itemized list of what failed and a clear estimate to fix it. Because we're a full repair shop, we can do most repairs the same day. Once it passes, we issue the sticker on the spot.

How long does a safety take?

The inspection itself is usually 1–2 hours. If repairs are needed, time depends on what's wrong — small fixes are same day; bigger items get a written timeline before we start.

Can you do a pre-sale safety for a truck I'm selling?

Yes. Pre-sale safety certifications are part of what we do — common for owner-operators selling a truck or transferring ownership.

Do I need to bring anything?

Ownership/registration and your current safety certificate (if you have one) help. Drop the truck off with a reasonable fuel level and we'll handle the rest.
